Nashville, TN

Nashville is a FUN-FUN-FUN city. It has been known as “Music City, U.S.A." since the Grand Ole Opry began broadcasting its weekend radio show in 1925.

Every Friday and Saturday night country stars perform. We were lucky to see Minnie Pearl in the Ole Opry store.

Our campground reserved very good seats for Saturday’s show when we made our reservations several days earlier. It’s a two hour show that is interrupted by commercials, like most sports events on TV, since it is being broadcast live on the radio. We thoroughly enjoyed the show (even Judy who usually isn’t much of a country western fan).

Friday night we toured an area in Downtown Nashville known as “The District” that is right near the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It is a several block area known for live music and honky tonk ambience filled with restaurants, famous lovable dives, and many street musicians.

We had dinner at Jack’s Bar-B-Que, a nondescript hole in the wall where the best ribs, smoked pork shoulder, and beef brisket are served.

We also toured the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, formerly known as The Opryland Hotel. It is the largest non-casino hotel in the world and the largest hotel in the United States outside Las Vegas, with 2,900 rooms. Wow!!!! What a huge and gorgeous hotel. We strolled through their Delta River Walk which is the lowest level that has boat rides that meander their inside waterway. There were waterfalls, gazebos, etc. All this is under a glass roof with many rooms with small balconies facing this gorgeous area. We then checked out another level which housed restaurants. It is an unbelievable place, with plants, shrubs and trees done in a first-class way. Then we window-shopped and visited the main lobby. After the Grand Ole Opry show we returned to see how the area looks all lit up at night – we weren’t disappointed.
